The Ironton Tanks were a semi-professional football team organized in 1919 in Ironton, Ohio. Their historical marker gives the story of the Tanks origin. Semi-professional football began in Ironton in 1893 with a team known as the Irontonians. The Ironton Tanks, founded in 1919, was a combination of two Ironton cross-town rival football clubs known as the Irish Town Rags and the Lombards. Their name reflected both the town's deep roots in the iron industry and the desire of returning soldiers from the 1st World War to run over their opponents. |

Duluth, Minnesota, hosted a professional football team called the Kelleys (officially the Kelley Duluths after the Kelley-Duluth Hardware Store) from 1923 to 1925 and the Eskimos from 1926 to 1927 in the National Football League. After being a traveling team in 1927, the Eskimos were then sold to the Orange Tornadoes. When Ole Haugsrud sold the team back to the league, part of the deal gave him first rights for any future NFL team in Minnesota. So when the NFL voted to expand in 1960 to the Twin Cities, Haugsrud was able to buy 10% of the Minnesota Vikings. |

The Canton Bulldogs were a professional American football team based in Canton, Ohio in the National Football League from 1920-1923 and 1925 to 1926. The Bulldogs won the 1922 and 1923 NFL Championships. In 1924, Sam Deutsch, the owner of the Indians, a team in Cleveland, bought the Canton Bulldogs and took the team nickname and players to Cleveland. It became known as the Cleveland Bulldogs. The National Football League placed the Pro-Football Hall in Canton in honour of the Canton Bulldogs and the city's important role in professional football. |
