Correctly inflated basketballs

Correctly inflated basketballs

A properly inflated ball should bounce to 4ft/1.2m (measured to the top of the ball) when dropped from 6ft/1.8m (measured to the bottom of the ball). Over-inflation increases wear and makes scoring more difficult. When inflating a ball, always use the correct sized needle which should be moistened before inserting into the valve.

Portable systems
All portable goals need ballast to allow them to be used safely. This can be provided by using concrete blocks, sandbags or dustbins filled with water or sand. Products which have a hollow heavy duty plastic base MUST be filled with either water or sand. Filling with sand gives greater ballast weight. If the plastic base is filled with water, care must be taken in cold climates to ensure that the water does not freeze and split the base.
